Choosing Gas Hot Water Heaters

Thanks to the invention of hot water heaters, people now can enjoy the luxury of having conveniently heated water in their homes. However, this comfort does not come without a price. Heating water in a hot water heater takes some form of energy. The energy consumed costs the homeowner money. Therefore, the type of hot water heater chosen for the home should be given careful consideration. For this reason, many choose a more energy efficient gas hot water heater.

A typical hot water heater has a thermostat that heats the cold water entering the tank and keeps it at a warmer degree temperature. When the thermostat senses cold water in the tank, it calls for the burner to light and heat the water. In a gas hot water heater, the burner warms through gas power.

The use of gas to heat the water gives a quicker hot water response than electric hot water heaters. Gas heats quicker and the turn around of going from cold water to hot water when the tank is emptied is faster. These heaters are also more energy efficient at costing less for operation. However, a gas hot water heater does have a higher cost upfront at the time of purchase.

In an average home most of the electrical energy is used to supply the house with electricity and not directly related to the hot water heater. When using a gas hot water heater, more of the direct energy is used for the heater and less on the overall house.

Some water heaters are gas fired with electric ignition controls. These heaters do not have a standing pilot light. Gas heaters with a standing pilot light remain lit continuously while electric ignition gas heaters only light when needed to fire the burner.

In the past, the only options were tank hot water heaters. However, the newest of gas hot water heaters are tankless. A tankless hot water heart is not limited to the amount of hot water in the tank. These heaters begin heating the water as soon as they determine a need for it. Therefore, more activities can be carried out a one time without running out of hot water. The water is also thought to be cleaner because it does not sit in the tank where rust can build up.

Gas hot water heaters are perfect for any home or business that has access to natural gas. They work well for businesses, such as restaurants, that require a quick and large supply of hot water. Propane is also an option for those that wish to have a gas hot water heater but do not have the access line for natural gas.

Before deciding exactly which hot water heater is best for you, it is important to do some research and discuss your specific situation with a hot water heater dealer. The size of the buildings, hot water needs, and power sources all affect the heater that best meets your needs.
