Do You Need A Tankless Waterheater?

Just what is a tankless waterheater? Could one help you reduce the cost of heating your water, save energy, and cut down on cold water showers? It all depends on your situation and what you need. A tankless waterheater is a great choice for people who don’t need a lot of water at once, but for huge groups, it can turn out to be more of a problem than a benefit. Let’s take a look at tankless waterheaters and what you need to know about them.

These heaters are all called on demand waterheaters. They run off a number of different fuels, including electricity, gas, propane and others, and are very popular in situations where an ordinary waterheater won’t work. They’re also very economical for people who won’t need an enormous amount of water at once, and are useful in small houses with one or two people at a time.

Basically, a tankless waterheater is one that heats the water as you need it, rather than storing it in a large tank that’s kept hot all the time. Conventional waterheaters use this kind of tank, and can provide as much hot water as the tank will hold, all at once. Of course, when the water tank is empty, there’s no more hot water until it can heat more up. This can result in some really cold showers.

A tankless waterheater doesn’t have this problem, since the water heats as it passes through the heater. It’s not kept hot, so there’s no need to run the heater all the time. However, it can’t offer more water than its flow rate. This means that tankless waterheaters aren’t the best choice if you’ll need to have a lot of people using water all at once, or if you’ll need to wash clothes, run the dishwasher, and shower at the same time.

What they can do is work well when a lot of people need to use water one after another. There’s no worry about running out of hot water, as long as the demand isn’t higher than the waterheater’s flow rate. A tankless waterheater can help you say goodbye to those “out of hot water” blues.

It can also save money and energy for people who mostly only use their hot water at certain times of day. There’s no need to keep a big tank of water hot all day if you only need hot water in the morning and the evening, after all. Tankless heaters are great for these kinds of situations.

So, do you need a tankless waterheater? It all depends on what your situation is like. If you don’t need a lot of hot water all at once and hate keeping your existing water tank hot, this might be the perfect choice for you.
