Finding the Best Boiler for Your Building

In order to get the best boiler for your building you need to understand your needs. How large is the building it will be serving? How many people will be living and working in it on a daily basis? How many will need it to function properly during the winter months and bad weather?

While these are all legitimate concerns when trying to find the best boiler for your particular situation, you also have to find the right cost to performance ratio. Some boilers are cheap and I’m not just talking about the price. You can cut corners easily on a boilers construction and end up selling a very cheap product for the same price as a good one. This makes the seller happy, but the customer usually ends up with problems.

These may range from blown valves, busted pipes, and rusting through of the boiler itself. This is one of the main reasons why it’s best to find a good quality brand in order to find the best boiler for you. The actual construction of a boiler is very simple. You have an inner shell where the boiling is done. Then you have the outer shell where the fire is lit.

Due to the intense pressure in the boiler, the inner shell is usually compromised of high quality iron, or heavy duty steel. Stainless steel is not applicable for the inner shell due to the differences in how it handles pressure and heat. However it can be used for the outer shell and the piping. Boilers are primarily used as heating, and power sources in some old buildings, and ships.

Some modern buildings and ships will keep them on hand in the event of needing emergency heating, or backup power. You probably won’t need to buy more than one or two when looking for the best boiler for yourself. Boilers will usually run from several thousand dollars to over ten thousand dollars in some cases. This mainly depends on the size, and output of the boiler.

Most buildings just need a standard model that costs fewer than five grand so you don’t have to fret much. The best boiler for you will last about 50 years if it is taken care of properly. Some boilers have even outlasted their original owners and are 100 years old, or older. All you have to do to keep them clean is simply clean out the fire pit, and make sure there’s no rust on the outside.

Once you find the best boiler for you and purchase it your only problem is going to be installing it. Boilers are very heavy, and you have to remove the old one before you can install the new one. This typically deals with some light demolition in order to get it out of your building’s basement, and some heavy lift gear. Then you have to lower the new one in and hook everything up properly. If all goes well the boiler should fire up, and your building should now have heat, and a stable water supply. Just remember to inspect it regularly especially in the winter months.
