If you’re looking for a replacement or new boiler for your office or apartment building there are a few things to be aware of. You have to stay on your toes and make sure that you are not getting a cheap boiler. Like cars, there are companies making boilers of poor quality and charging full price for them. This leads to money for them and potential accidents for you.

A cheap boiler is usually denoted by the metal used in its construction. Most good boilers are made out of heavy duty steel and iron. Stainless steel isn’t practical for the internal components so it is often used for the piping, and external parts. Heavy duty iron boilers are expensive, and heavy, but they do their job fantastically.

You wouldn’t think someone could cheaply make something whose sole job is to boil water, but they can. Traditionally boilers used to be made by riveting parts together. As they included more steel instead of iron in the design they moved towards spot welding to assemble them. This is one area where the manufacturer can cut corners. Welding a boiler is complex and requires multiple areas to be welded together for precise operation.

So make sure to inspect your potential boiler for areas that aren’t welded properly, or look shabby. Getting a cheap boiler may not seem like a problem for some, but this can lead to some very bad situations down the line. If the boiler were to explode due to cheap design it could cause a lot of damage. Not to mention people could be severely hurt, or worse.

The next problem with buying a cheap boiler is leaks, and random pressure surges through your pipes. These may cause some pipes to burst and in the winter time they might freeze. So not only would the basement of your apartment building be flooded, it would be frozen over in a few hours as well. If not attended to quickly the loss of water might go from being temporary to permanent.

Of course the end goal is to buy a cheap boiler in price, not quality. There are many boilers out there that are rather inexpensive as far as boilers go, and still maintain good quality. The best ones however are the old monstrosities made over 100 years ago. Some of these are still in peak operating condition and continue to serve people all over the country.

These giants were made of pure iron and weigh more than two or three cars combined. They are very hard to damage, and as long as they are cleaned, and kept free of filth they work fine. Many of these can be seen in some old government buildings, and utility stations. Even some modern buildings still have them as backups in case everything else fails.

Cheap boiler construction can be a downfall for anyone, but a cheap boiler price can be easily found. You just have to look around, check out the backgrounds of the dealers, and inspect the unit thoroughly. After all, the cheapest model is still going to run several grand. If you’re going to put down that kind of money you have a right to inspect it.
