Amazon Users Rating:

The LG 50PZ950 is a full 1080p HDTV, with a 600Hz refresh rate and 3D capabilities. While it does have some concerns with picture quality, it is a solid choice when looking for higher-end televisions.

LG 50PZ950

The Positives – Whether you are in dark, dimly lit areas, or bright and sunny areas, the television is able to maintain excellent color, in addition to the screen uniformity of all plasma televisions. This means that if you wish to watch a movie at night, there is no need to turn on any additional lights, or if you want to watch daytime television, you can leave the blinds and curtains the way they are. No need to block out the sunlight to eliminate glare. There are a number of streaming services available on the unit, and it includes wifi connectivity, as well as LG specific apps. The unit is THX certified, and able to display high-quality 3D media. There is a single pane of glass that covers the entire unit rather than multiple sections as in most televisions. The frame of the television is sleek and smooth, with a rounded top base stand. The remote control for the LG 50PZ950 is similar to a Nintendo Wii controller, with motion-sensor like qualities.

LG 50PZ950

The Negatives – The black levels produced by the television are quite light in nature, giving off more of a grey feeling than a dark black. This gives the images an overall washed out feeling. The SmartTV is missing several major programs, including Pandora. The search feature is rather limited in nature. The menu items are lacking in explanations, and there is no on-screen manual included. In comparison to other televisions in the same price range, the picture quality is lacking. While the television is 3D capable, it does not include any glasses with the purchase, which sell for an additional $129 each. CNET gives the LG 50PZ950 a “poor” energy rating. The wand style remote control lacks a return or back button, and sometimes lags in its response time. The motion control nature of the remove is not available to use in the Netflix program.

LG 50PZ950

When comparing the LG 50PZ950 to the current top of the line plasma televisions, the LG has a difficult time holding its own. This is mainly due to issues with the picture quality. It makes up some ground with the streamlines styling and internet suite.
