So many people take the lawn mower out of the box, start using it and forget about it from there. Just like any other piece of equipment you have, you have to keep up on the maintenance of the lawn mower. When you make sure that you are caring for it properly, you will find that it will last you a lot longer. The longer it lasts, the fewer mowers you have to purchase which means you save a lot of money.
One thing that you want to do is to make sure that you are keeping the blade sharp. This is not something you should tend to on your own unless you have experience with it. Instead, take the lawn mower to a repair shop and they can sharpen the blade for you. Depending on the quality of the lawn mower, you might find that you need to do this at least once a year. When the blade is sharp, the grass gets a cleaner cut and remains healthy.
You also want to make sure that you are hosing off all of the cut grass that is stuck under the lawn mower and on top of it. Once you are done hosing it off, be sure that you are wiping it down to get the water off to that it does not rust. Just make sure that you are keeping away from the blade. Store the lawn mower in a shed or under a tarp to keep the rain off of it.
