Regular Maintenance for Your Lawn Mower

If you have a lawn mower of your own and you want to make your investment last, you are going to have to take care of it. This means that you will need to keep all the expensive parts of the mower tuned up. For the best use of your lawn mower, regular maintenance is a must.

One of the most important parts of your mower happens to be the engine. If it is not working well, the mower will not perform well for you. One important thing you need to check is the engine oil. For every five hours or use, the level of oil needs to be checked. The oil should be changed once a season as well, and when this is done, the oil filter should also be changed if there is one.

Check out the spark plugs. If there is wear and tear, then they will need to be changed. If you have to replace them, use a bit of engine oil in the cylinders and then slowly crank the spark plugs in. You’ll also need to check out the air filter. It should be at least cleaned for every 30 hours you use the mower, and it will need replaced from time to time as well.

It’s important that you keep up the cutting deck as well to ensure that your mower is cutting the grass well. The blades need to be sharpened on a regular basis. Dull blades won’t cut the grass as well. You can pay to have your blades sharpened or you can try to do this yourself. Underneath the cutting deck you will need to clean out that excess grass too. A little engine grease can be put under the deck to keep clippings from sticking in the future.
