The Advantages of Using a Portable Hot Water Heater in Hurricane Prone Areas

If you live in an area that is prone to hurricanes, it is important that you know and understand the advantages of using a portable hot water heater. Each year, millions of individuals work to create their hurricane emergency kits. Individuals in the states of Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and many others start gathering supplies such as bottled water, first aid kits, can food, and items similar in nature. One of the most popular appliances purchased in preparation for Hurricane Season is a generator. However, more and more people are starting to realize that owning a portable hot water heater may also be highly beneficial. If your state is affected by hurricanes and other types of tropical disturbances, read on to discover the advantages of including a portable hot water heater in your emergency kit.

The weather patterns in the United States have drastically changed over the course of the past few years. As a result of these changes, we have seen more violent, turbulent hurricanes coming in close proximity to residential areas and in some cases, actually striking those areas. These dangerous storms produce winds that are relatively fast and highly dangerous. It is also common for this type of tropical system to produce dangerous and consistent lightning, small to large amounts of hail, torrential rains, and immense flooding. If a hurricane or a tropical storm draws near, individuals who live in areas prone to them know to expect a power outage. If this occurs, it is quite likely that the hot water heater in the home will not function appropriately. This is why there is a definite need for a portable hot water heater during Hurricane Season.

Most portable hot water heater systems are used on boats, recreational vehicles, and on camping trips. These units typically contain a handle which can be used to hang the unit, a fuel container and a regulator for that fuel, a hose, and shower capabilities. Additionally, there are usually attachments and special types of hardware that can help in connecting a shower head, a shield for the vent system, an adaptor that a garden hose can be connected to, as well as components that make carrying the unit easy such as a handle, a case, a dolly system, or even a backpack type container. Portable hot water heater units are typically ignited by a battery so that there are no complications in starting the device, and they are powered by propane which is considered to be a safe, clean type of fuel.

If you live in a hurricane prone area and elect to purchase a portable hot water heater, it is important to understand that the device should only be used outdoors in an area that is relatively open. The downside to this is that this could cause a problem if there is lightning, flooding, or heavy rains and winds. It is best to create an elevated structure that simply contains a floor space above ground level and a roof. You should also have plenty of water containers on hand. If you create such an area, when it is safe for you to go outdoors, you may go to the structure, fill the water containers with hot water quickly and then transport it back into the home so that you may prepare meals, keep your home sanitary, and for hygiene needs. There are many advantages to using a portable hot water heater, but the two major advantages are convenience and the steady supply of hot water.
